Jacoby
2NT Response Bid
The
Jacoby 2NT Response Bid is a response bid made after partner has made an
opening bid of a 5 card major. The
response bidder has at least 13 points and four-card support for the major suit
opened by the partner.
The
Jacoby 2NT response bid, after partner has opened 1H/1S, requests opener to
describe the complexion of openeršs hand containing a 5 card major.
Opener's
rebids
If
you opened 1 of a major (H/S) and partner responds 2NT:
1)
If
you have a singleton or a void, bid 3 of that suit.
2)
If
you have another 5-card suit with honors, bid 4 of that suit.
3)
If
you have extra values with balanced hand, bid 3NT
4)
If
you have extra values and extra length in your major, bid 3 of the major
5)
If
you have a minimum opener with no singleton or void, jump to 4 of your suit.
For
example, when you open 1H/1S and your partner responds 2NT, opener`s rebids are
as follows:
1)
3C,
3D or 3S/3H =
Singleton or void in that suit.
2)
3H/3S = 14 or more points with
extra length in your suit or 18 HCP with no singleton.
3)
3NT = 15-18 points with a
balanced hand
4)
4C,
4D, 4S/4H = A
five-card suit headed by a K or equivalent
5)
4S = Minimum hand (12-14HCP and
no singleton)
The
decision to bid game or slam is then made by the responder. Responder may sign
off at game. If responder wants to
explore further, cuebids for Aces, Blackwood, or Gerber are available for slam
attempts.
