Insufficient Bid
A. Accepting an Insufficient Bid
Any insufficient bid may be accepted at
the option of offender's left hand opponent. If the left hand opponent makes a call prior to any penalty
assessment, the insufficient bid stands without penalty.
B. Opponents Not Accepting the Insufficient Bid
If an insufficient bid is not accepted by the opponents, the
call must be corrected by the substitution of either a sufficient bid or a
pass.
- If the
insufficient bid is not conventional and is corrected by the offender to
be the loweset sufficient bid in the same denomination, the bid is correct.
If the insufficient bid and the corrected bid in the same denomination are
not conventional, the auction proceeds as though the irregularity had not
occurred and no penalty is assessed.
- If the
insufficient bid or the lowest sufficient bid in the same denomination are
conventional, the offender`s partner is required to pass whenever it is
his turn to call.
- If the
insufficient bid or the bid is corrected by any other sufficient bid or by
a pass, the offender`s partner must pass whenever it is his turn to call.
- If the
offender attempts to make a double or redouble for his insufficient bid,
the attempted call is canceled, and the offender`s partner must pass
whenever it is his turn to call.
- If the
Director assesses that the insufficient bid conveyed information to damage
the non-offending side, the director shall assign an adjusted score to the
result.
