A Call is Withdrawn

When a player's call is withdrawn, and a different final call for that rotation is made, there are penalties assessed if the offender becomes a defender:

A. Call in a specific suit

When the call withdrawn is a specific suit call,

  1. if that suit was included in a previous call by the same player, there is no lead penalty, but see Law 16C.

  2. if that suit was not included in a previous call by the same player, then the declarer may

a.   require the offender's partner to lead the offender`s called suit  at his first turn to lead, including the opening lead

b.     prohibit offender's partner from leading the offender`s called suit at his first turn to lead, including the opening lead, for as long as the partner retains the lead.

B. Other Withdrawn Calls

If the withdrawn call is not suit specific, declarer may prohibit offender's partner from leading any one suit at his first turn to lead, including the opening lead, for as long as offender's partner retains the lead.
